The LHS students have gone from saying “Put your dogs away!” in 2021 to rocking flipflops, clogs (without socks) and sandals to school. It’s been like this all year but especially now as the temperature rises and summer gets closer.
“I have seen a rise in flip flops which is too bad because students forgot to bring shoes and I have to mark their grade down for unathletic footwear,” said PE teacher Jimmy Watts.
Some claim to wear them because they’re cute, others say they’re great shoes for a hacky sack. Some just want to participate in “Flip-flop Friday”. No matter the reason it’s been a noticeable change throughout the past few years.
“I love flip-flops. They go with a lot of outfits. They’re so comfy and cute,” said sophomore Juliette Moehl
Others have opposing opinions saying not only only will not be participating in the trend, they don’t want to see it.
“People’s feet should be covered, especially at school. It’s just kinda gross and no one really wants to see: the beach is the exception,” said senior Maddie Moehl
No matter the opinion, the change has been notable and it could be seen as a positive that students are not being confined by previous social norms and are doing what’s comfortable for them.
