From on the court domination to off the court leadership, the LHS girls tennis team has carved their path towards a prolonged state run.
In the TRL playoffs, the duo of Mia and Drew Fitzgerald took home the TRL championship as the first place double, giving them a direct path to the state playoffs. Along with that, Kat Papasouliotis and Sarah Agan took home the third place win in the TRL playoffs, giving yet another state playoff berth for the girls tennis team.
According to head coach John Bass, their on court achievements only tell a tiny part of the story. Rather, it is the mentality behind the matches that helped with their dominance.
“They have learned a great deal about staying in the moment and not letting external things get in the way of their goals,” said Bass. “They play with a confidence because they put in the work to make them successful.”
With their run at the state playoffs quickly approaching, that mental side of the game is something they have really chosen to master prior to facing the best competition in the state. “We are focused on staying focused on a point-by-point mentality,” said Bass. “We want to work on controlling the point with a blend of patience and timely aggression.”
Overall, the team has been preparing for this moment for years, from Mia and Drew Fitzgerald’s sibling connection and Papasouliotis and Agan’s four years of playing together, to get one more shot at glory in the state championship.
