Every Saturday morning from May through October, Millennium Park Plaza fills with local vendors, fresh foods and visitors as the Lake Oswego Farmers Market returns for another season.
Some items being sold at the market this year include flowers, fruits, vegetables, seafood, fresh juice, Greek and Mexican cuisine, skin products and candles.
Founded in 2001, this marks 25 years since opening, and this market has become one of Lake Oswego’s most popular events. The Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation Department operates this every year in support of the local farmers and small businesses while creating a fun community event.
More than 80 vendors attend the market each week, selling fruits, vegetables, flowers, baked goods, seafood, handmade crafts and hot food.
“I love seeing all my friends from school selling goods at the market,” said Andrew Kunjummen. “It really makes me feel a part of the community.”
For many people in the community, the farmers market is more than just a place to shop. It has become a place to support businesses and agriculture in Oregon.
The farmers market also offers the opportunity for students to make and sell their own products called the Young Entrepreneur Program. It helps students gain skills, experience and mentorship from others.
“It’s a great opportunity to learn customer service, business, and management skills,” said Tye Dodson. “Everyone is really nice. They teach you everything you need to know to run your stand.”
The market also includes fun games for kids including scavenger hunts and activities with rewards to buy free fruit and honey at the end.
The Lake Oswego Farmers Market takes place Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Millennium Park Plaza starting on May 9 until October.
As attendance grows each year, the market is still the most recognizable community tradition of Lake Oswego.
