There is only one place in the school where you can make Quebec-inspired ice castles out of sugar cubes: you guessed it, French Club.
French Club is a group of 36 students that meet monthly and participate in francophone inspired activities. While these events often surround French culinary traditions, they also involve competitive games and French music.
“French Club is a way for students to experience French traditions and culture outside of their French class, trying new things and interacting with other French learners along the way,” said club president Kiefer Meyden. “But don’t feel like you need to take French to be in it, it’s open for everybody.”
In the past, specific activities have included blind cheese tasting (in which one unfortunate student received a slice of strong blue cheese), French pictionary, French short film viewing and of course, building ice castles out of sugar cubes, which resembled those found in the Quebec Winter Festival.
The next French Club event is madeleine baking in the culinary room. This has been a staple in French Club for as long as anyone can remember. Students will get together and bake tasty French treats to celebrate the end of the year.
The event will take place after school from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. in the culinary room on May 27. If you would like to join the French Club Google Classroom, the code is tei6sru.
If you would like more details on what the club does, visit French teacher Amy Ryan, the club’s facilitator, in room F-25. You can also talk to the club presidents, juniors Aiden Konoske and Kiefer Meyden.
