Although the start time will stay, next year’s daily schedule will be a new change, along with the parking lot lottery.
Assistant Principal Sally Farrell handles the parking arrangements and for next year the way to be eligible for parking will be through a lottery.
“We are going to put out a Google form for rising juniors and seniors to see who is interested, we look at students who maintain 90% or higher attendance and we will look at students’ cell phone use to see if they are eligible for the lottery,” said Farrell.
Names will be drawn from the lottery, and the staff is only looking at the second semester of this year to determine who is able to enter the draw.
“When people complete the Google Form, there will be a space for them to write their reason for any extenuating circumstances,” said Farrell. This may help explain why students fell short of 90% thresholds.
Next year, the Lake Oswego School District will be adjusting to a new bell schedule. Kevin Mills, the LHS principal, has been working with LOHS to find a compromise.
“We are not just adopting theirs, as a group we came up collectively with a bell schedule, so theirs is shifting too,” said Mills.
Now there is a reason for the major shift in the schedule because it is important to align with LOHS.
“Recently we have a lot more classes that we share, and when the schedules don’t align we had students that would miss instruction time, and as a district they wanted continuity,” said Mills.
One of the new changes in the schedule is the incorporation of Support Seminar and Advisory.
On Monday, May 18th, in the Pacer Newsletter Mills stated that seminar and advisory will be time “giving students greater access to teachers throughout the week for academic support, clubs, and enrichment opportunities.”
The goal of all these adjustments is to create a more consistent and uniformed environment for students in the district as they will be implemented into the upcoming school year.
