Seniors are now 94% of their way through high school, as of the beginning of quarter four. Juniors are at 69%, sophomores are at 44%, and freshmen sit at 19%. With so much school under their belts, these students are the best references for underclassmen still wondering what to take next. But what exactly do these seniors recommend?
They say to enjoy your time at LHS.
Senior Cassey Koch recommended Ceramics, but noted it was a very popular class. Aspiring ceramicists should apply for it every single year to strengthen their chance to get in.
“I never really thought of myself as an art person,” said Koch. “Ceramics is kind of that class that teaches you how to enjoy it.”
“Culinary Arts and Art with Mr. Malone,” said senior Luca Vesa. “Academic classes are more important, but you can’t have only AP’s, or you’re gonna hate your time in high school. So things like team sports and culinary art should be mixed in with academics.”
But seniors also recommend classes that teach you more about the world. Koch thought AP Economics did just that.
“That’s a good class because [Mr. Obiesie is] an amazing teacher, and he definitely cares how we’re educated,” Koch said. “So it’s not just about the class. His overall goal is to make sure that we understand what’s happening in the economy and like how it relates to things that are happening now.”
“I highly suggest Biotech,” said senior Rowan John.
Seniors generally agreed that the best way to go about high school was to diverge from the “four-year plan.”
John thought the best course of action was to get your required classes done as soon as possible.
“Do them all in your first three years, and then in your third year and your last year, you can kind of let loose, and find all the classes you want to do,” John said. “It pays to be patient.”
Koch said she did not follow her four year plan either.
“Your interests will change over the years,” she said. “Take the classes you’re interested in. Don’t take a class just because of other people’s expectations. But if you do have an interest in it, go for it.”
