Summer’s just around the corner leaving students with more free time then ever. So instead of lounging all summer, consider plunging into the world of internships.
Internships are super beneficial for any highschool student, and especially to students at LHS. They can help gain real-world experience, and exploration into fields of study you’re interested in, and even further into the future, they can be great for putting in resumes, networking opportunities, and getting your foot into the door for job markets.
“A stepping stone to success. From gaining valuable experience and making connections to shaping future career paths, the benefits of internships are endless.” stated on fulfillmentfund.org’s 7 reasons why you need a summer internship.
Their are a multitude of ways for students to take advantage of the summer months, to score themselves some job experience at internships, but finding them proves just as time consuming. However plenty of websites, and schools that offer easy ways to access internships.
LinkedIn, is a great source for students to easily find internships, along with opportunities into other extracurricular or volunteer activities. LinkedIn is especially useful for those interested in finding professionals in fields, and targeting specific specialized interests.
Oregon Hospital and Science University offers an outreach program, with over 200 programs that focus on improving the health and well being of Oregonians through health care, research and education. Specifically offering K-12 programs which are great for high schoolers here at LHS, some of which includes the Apprenticeships in Science and Engineering Program (ASE), Partnership for Scientific Inquiry (PSI), and OHSU Knight Scholar Program.
“I’m signed up for a shadowing program at OHSU this summer,” said sophomore Safari Low, “I’m super excited for the opportunity.”
However a lot of the programs are highly competitive, so its best to look into acquiring them early and quickly, especially before a majority of college students get out of school. So take your chances, and sign up for those internships this summer.
