The new Recreation & Aquatics Center near LHS is expected to open in early spring 2025, with many students from LHS hoping to use it as soon as it opens.
There will be two pools; one for recreational use and one for competition. The rec pool will have lanes for lap swimming, spa, and a kids area with a waterslide and other play structures.
The center cost about $46 million for the city to make and will cost $4-6 dollars a day to use depending on your age. If you purchased a membership, you will have access to fitness classes, swimming classes, both pools, and the workout center for ages 14 and up. It is not currently known if LOSD students and families will get a discount, however the center is looking to hire LHS students when it opens.
“I want to make some money over the summer so I can have money for next school year. I also like swimming,” said junior Henry Lindekugel
At the same time as using the center for a job, some LHS students will also be using it for sports. The center’s competition pool is planned to be used by both the LHS swimming and water polo teams. LHS students are also planning to use the center for general workouts, switching from places like bay club and 24 hour fitness.
“The aquatic center will be way easier and better to practice with than what we had last year, it’ll be way easier to get to after school and the pool is way newer and better,” said junior Aidan Webster.
As well as using the center for official team practices some team members also want to use it during the off-season to improve on their own.
“I’m going to start training at the aquatic center with a couple of my teammates before practice officially starts. I want to go into the season already at or close to my end of season physique,” said Webster.
