The hit musical “Chicago” will open on the LHS main stage on Nov. 14. The production features a dedicated cast and crew, along with a pit orchestra that plays the songs live and fully immerses the audience in the show.
“Chicago is a story about murder and lying,” said junior Violet Lempert, who plays Velma Kelly in the show. “It centers around Roxie Hart who’s in jail for murdering her secret lover.”
“Our version is unique due to the amazing set,” said stage manager Audrey Nelson, who is in charge of behind-the-scenes work. “I call cues, plan the changes, and generally make sure the production runs seamlessly.”
“Students at Lakeridge would enjoy Chicago because it’s a very entertaining and flashy show,” said Lempert.
“It is a whole lot of fun,” said junior Adam Wick. “You get to see some really talented kids do some really cool stuff.” Wick plays Billy Flynn, a corrupt lawyer with a knack for freeing remorseless murderers in the production.
The show has a duration of about 90 minutes, and the original musical has won six Tony awards. In 1996 it was revived and became the second longest-running show with over 10,500 shows.
Students can buy tickets by scanning the QR codes on posters around the school or by going to pacer-drama.org.
