LHS students, families and faculty filled the gym on May 11 to celebrate many athletes from the Class of 2026 in an event named “College Signing Day.” Over 30 athletes from eight different sports came to the event to sign for their future college.
Signing Day is a special night to honor athletes who are publicly committed to continuing their sport and academics in college after successful athletic stints at LHS.
Athletes took photos with family, friends and coaches at Signing Day and signed a letter of intent to officiate their commitment to the college they will be attending.
“It was just a really good opportunity for the families and the athletes
really appreciate the school organizing this,” said senior Cassey Koch.
Filled with gratitude, each athlete went up to the mic in front of the gym and gave a speech. Each speech was filled with thanks and recognition to those who helped them get to where they are as student-athletes.
“I really liked getting to see what everyone is going to do in the future,” said senior Lindsey Lyons. “I enjoyed seeing all the positivity around celebrating student-athletes’ success in high school and in college.”
Lyons, a LHS cheerleader and track athlete, will be attending and cheerleading at Christopher Newport University in Virginia.
LHS Class of 2026 seniors should be incredibly proud of the work they have put in the last four years. Make sure to congratulate all of the 30 athletes on their incredible accomplishment. We wish these athletes the best of luck in their athletic endeavors.
