Pacers raced for bragging rights in LHS’s very own game show, the Amazing Pace. Taking place throughout the LHS campus for a week starting from May 18, the Amazing Pace features 10 teams of two seniors each who take on a variety of challenges every morning as they race to qualify for the next round.
At the end of the week, seniors Evan Morris and Sarah Buchanan emerged victorious as the only remaining team.
“The prize for The Amazing Pace is mainly bragging rights and the honor of being recognized as the strongest Pacer team at Lakeridge High School,” said Morris.
Each day, two teams are eliminated through the surprise games created by ASB spirit director Nico Belcik and support services coordinator Elizabeth Murphy.
“On Tuesday, contestants participated in a smoothie-making competition using both good and bad ingredients,” said Morris. “Another event was a ‘Guess That Tune’ challenge, which tested contestants’ music knowledge and eliminated several teams.”
The contests are held early in the morning and during lunch.
“Students can watch recap videos on the Wearelakeridge Instagram. During lunch, students may also spot contestants racing through the school to complete their next challenge,” said Morris.
With fast-paced challenges and opportunities to win advantages, the games kept the contestants on their toes.
“The blended shake challenge was extremely entertaining as thanks to our advantage from our big win on day one, we had the opportunity to select our ingredients first,” said senior Dominic Bender. “This allowed us to make a shake that not only was palatable but even a shake that teachers brought back to their classes.”
The 10 teams were chosen through their application and video which were submitted to Murphy.
