The symphony orchestra, band and jazz ensembles all won awards in their respective TRL categories at the OSAA League Festival at LOHS on April 15. This marked the first time that three LHS ensembles have won in the same TRL event in the music program’s history.
“We felt very excited and recognized for our achievements and hard work,” said freshman Eucaly Waltner, who is part of the jazz ensemble and orchestra.
Their accomplishment qualified them for the OSAA State Orchestra Festival at the Oregon State University, which they attended on May 13-16.
“State was a very fun and great opportunity for us to hear some of the top groups in the state, and it was awesome,” said Waltner.
The Pacers’ hard work and successes helped the Lake Oswego School District achieve a complete sweep of the TRL music awards, with the LOHS choir also winning an award.
“We played with emotion and we’ve been working in sectionals and with other band directors,” said senior and band member Cassey Koch. “Also Mr. Hartley has had us focus on our sight reading.”
The LHS A Cappella Choir also placed at the competition and will be moving onto the state level even though they didn’t qualify automatically.
“We got top six in the tape pool for our state, so we didn’t automatically qualify, but we were in the top six for the other 24 schools that put a tape in, so that’s really nice,” said junior Sadie Brix, a member of the A Cappella Choir.
