LOSD First Robotics Competition robotics team Lake Monsters set off to their World Competition on May 1. The team competed in many regionals and worked hard to qualify for the world competition.
“We have two district competitions where our team tries to get the FIRST Impact or Engineering Inspiration Award,” said Carly Jordan, project manager. “If you win either of those at a competition, you are afforded the opportunity to go to the district championship.”
The team members expressed how they qualified for the world competition this year.
“This year, [the district competition] I believe was in Cheney, Washington. The whole team, marketing team and many of our engineering representatives, went to Cheney and presented for the Engineering Inspiration Award, which we won at our first district event this year,” said Jordan.
During the World Championships, team members expressed their views on the competition.
“[We have] a big group there and once you get there, we’re just competing against our division,” said Co-Captain senior Helena Du.
Besides preparing for the competition for the world, members of the robotics team also shared some interesting details about their robot, Tut.
“This year’s theme was called Rebuilt. They have a theme video every single year and it was Egyptian themed, it was sand and everything,” said Du. “So, everyone’s thinking of Egypt and the most famous, for us, is King Tut.”
Beside experience the team members had preparing for world competition, there are individuals that team members wanted to give shoutout to.
“Mary [Clark], the mechanical lead,” said freshman Steve Li. “She really put in a lot of personal time to contribute to the robot.”
