Bringing 2016 back to life, Coachella made its annual comeback with big headliners and new artists taking the stage. The world watched as three major headliners, Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber and Karol G managed to bring two memorable weeks to the virtual and physical audience. Among these headliners, Justin Bieber’s return has sparked excitement and hopes for a potential tour.
“It was interesting because at first it seemed like he didn’t want to be there, and he seemed dull,” said junior Harrison Burley. “But when he saw that everyone was cheering, he had an obvious shift in his mood.”
Starting with the first week of the festival, Bieber engaged the online audience in the experience by featuring the live chat on screen and pulling song recommendations. The majority of his songs, especially nearing the end, brought nostalgic feelings to the crowd, featuring his beloved older songs that initially brought him to the spotlight.
“I watched Justin’s set at Coachella on livestream, and I thought it was very amazing,” said senior Aura Espinoza. “I loved how he changed into his old voice and how everyone watching was very hyped.”
Beiber’s minutes-long period in his show, where he played videos of himself from the start of his career and old internet “memes,” struck the viewers, showing that his sets were a way of healing his inner child.
At the end of his second-week set at Coachella, Justin told the audience that he would “see them soon” as he left the stage. The internet and fans of Bieber suspect that this was a hint at a future tour.
