At first glance, it might seem like there’s no school resource officer (SRO) on campus, but that’s because he’s often out on patrol, working behind the scenes to keep students safe.
Oscar Fregoso, who has been our SRO at LHS since 2025, has been called back into patrol duty due to staffing reasons within the Lake Oswego Police Department.
Even though Fregoso is not available to us at LHS right now, that doesn’t mean we don’t have other resources if need be. Bryan Sheldon, who is the main SRO at LOHS, is also on stand by if the call comes his way.
Even though Fregoso is not currently in the building, we still have many safety precautions when certain situations happen.
“We have regular police via 911 as a convenience factor,” said LHS Assistant Principal Sally Farrell. “It helps when you have someone in your back pocket, but we have other ways to access the support if we need it.”
This can help ensure the students and staff at LHS are always protected whether Fregoso is in the building or not. LHS Principal Kevin Mills also expanded on this and the safety of students at LHS.
“Right now they are all on call, we still have access and if we need to call LOPD and it aligns with Oscar’s hours, then he can come help since he has familiarity,” said Mills. “He’s not physically present but LOPD is still there for us to use.”
In place to help Fregoso with his duties at LHS, we have other administrators to help manage student safety as well. Assistant Principal Brian Crawford and Farrell help with making sure students are arriving on time to class, getting homework done and setting the right example.
Fregoso’s placement is under the discretion of LOPD. Their staffing levels determine where certain officers are placed, so in case they are under-staffed, they can call certain officers and direct them to where they need to be.
Fregoso has a very important role at LHS, whether he is present in the building or not. He makes sure that the building is safe, students and faculty are protected from any danger as well as holding a good example of what it means to be a Pacer.
His absence from the hallways doesn’t mean he isn’t working, it simply means his role extends beyond what students can see.
