Hallways that are usually full of energy have been noticeably quieter as the “Pacer Plague” keeps many students home sick. This is the time of year when people start coming down with all different types of sicknesses that prevent them from being at school during key moments in the year.
The most notorious sicknesses LHS students are getting this time of year are the flu, strep throat, and stomach bugs. These all spread because of the close contact in classrooms and the hallways, touching of desks, door handles, and students still showing up to school sick.
“The most difficult part was missing school, missing all of the work was so annoying,” said senior Xavi Sandino-Taylor.
Many students have noticed the coughs echo in the hallways and the empty desks in their classes. Some teachers have to adjust their lessons and homework so the students can catch up and manage their missed work.
The best way to avoid missing school work, homework, or tests is to email your teachers ahead of time so you are ahead of the curve.
Senior Kori Krup wanted to offer advice to anyone who might miss school due to illness.
“Email your teachers and communicate as best you can so that your teachers will be more willing to help you when you get back from being sick,” said Krup.
Although the “Pacer Plague” has caused a ton of absences, students and staff are hoping the spread of these seasonal illnesses slows down so classes and after-school activities return to normal. Until then, many are focusing on getting better.
As the illnesses continue to move through the school, students are hoping the “Pacer Plague” disappears as quickly as it arrived.
