Clubs at LHS have always been a great way to relax and enjoy yourself in the midst of a stressful school environment, which is why the Astronomy Club and Jewish Student Union are great communities.
The Astronomy Club is exactly what it sounds like. A group of people hanging out, eating snacks and talking space. In the past, they’ve brought donut holes and pizza to eat.
“Astronomy Club is basically a group that gets together and talks about subjects related to the field of astronomy,” said senior Rehan Gangi. “We’ve discussed black holes, dark matter and the possibility of extraterrestrial life, which is interesting.”
If any of these topics seem intriguing and you’d like to know more, Astronomy Club members would love to chat about them with you. Not only do they host weekly meetings, from time to time they invite guest speakers to share about their astronomy related careers.
The club meets every Tuesday at lunch in room B-36, where science teacher Patrick Connelly teaches.
Jewish Student Union is another great community. They meet in English teacher Joanna Stein’s room F-9 every Tuesday at lunch.
“It’s a safe place where we can all get together and either celebrate the holidays or play some games,” said senior and co-president of JSU Violet Lempert. “We teach lessons about culture and one in a while will have donut fundraisers.”
The proceeds they generate at these donut fundraisers are evenly split between funds for Israeli and Palestinian children. The next fundraiser will take place on Feb. 17 during TSCT and lunch.
