When students enter the classroom in the morning, wouldn’t it be very nice to have a class pet sitting in front of you, welcoming you every day? Walking along with them or hanging out in the classroom during hard courses? LHS teachers and students have lots to say regarding their class pet opinion.
“A dog or a cat or something that could wander around and they can pet,” said Brittany Larson, social studies teacher.
Many students, as well as the staff, would really like to have dogs or cats as their class pet. They are small and provide a great accompaniment with students, whether in class or outside of class.
“I would want a golden retriever in my classes too, especially in AP classes,” said Larson.
When asked about the opinion whether class pets will be helpful or not, Larson expressed a feeling of agreement.
“I think if it were well trained, yes, like the ones that are up in the library are very well trained. I don’t think they’re super distracting,” said Larson.
Besides teachers, students have a similar opinion.
“We should have a dog so we can feed them and walk them,” said freshman Everest Gao.
Although teachers and students have a similar opinion on class pets, they also share the same worries when it comes to being too distracting.
“It’s probably going to be distracting,” said Gao. “But it will make the classroom environment more positive.”
While students might have different feelings about coming into school, it’s always very nice to have a pet or something they like waiting for them in a classroom to tell them that they’re not alone in the classroom.
