2026 is the perfect year to go out, leave the house and watch a movie instead of sitting at home endlessly doomscrolling. It’s going to be a good year for films, with hundreds of movies coming out. Many of these movies are highly anticipated and are expected to make hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office.
There are anticipated movies with our favorite franchises, such as “Avengers: Doomsday,” “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” “Scream 7” and “Dune 3.” However, there are still movies that break this mold, such as “The Odyssey” and “The Drama” that are creating their own new stories outside of franchises.
As for what LHS students are most excited to see, there was a wide variety of answers.
“I’m excited for Avengers: Doomsday and Dune 3,” said junior Daylon Wood. “They both seem like they’re going to be really good movies.”
Comparing 2026 to last year, the difference in the amount of blockbuster, highly anticipated movies is stunning, with 2026 being the biggest year for movies in the last decade. That’s certainly something to look forward to.
“I work at a movie theater, and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ are definitely the biggest talk right now,” said senior Aura Espinoza.
Whatever you’re interested in, there’s a movie for you this year.
