The Lake Monsters Robotics Team has been making a splash this year at local tournaments and in the community. Their competitive spirit has helped them win many local tournaments and even place at Worlds in the 2025 season, a feat they hope to repeat this year.
The team has been gearing up for their first tournaments of the season after four months of training in different disciplines like computer assisted design, mechanical engineering and program outreach. Every part of the team works together to help the Lake Monsters succeed at competitions. From building the robot to advertising the team, every job is important.
“Our main season, Rebuild, was released Jan. 10,” said junior Carly Jordan, the project manager of the robotics team. “Rocketing forward, our whole team came together to strategize and prototype for three intensive days.”
This season the team is focusing on building a robot that can pick up and throw objects into a goal as well as climb a five-foot ladder.
Outside of the pit, the Lake Monsters have been making a big impact in the Lake Oswego community by visiting local hospitals like Shriners Children’s as well as hosting multiple STEM focused events for young children.
“Our students bring our competition bots to immunocompromised patients and distribute handmade stem kits,” said Jordan. “We also have Bridging the STEM Gap kits that are brought to foster families, kids in underserved communities and kids throughout LOSD.”
The Lake Monsters are planning to continue community outreach with multiple kid-focused events later this year, as well as more involvement with STEM at LHS. If you want to join the team, reach out to coach John Sperry.
