While royalty seems to be a thing of the past, or some European nation, during the weeks leading up to prom on May 3, it can be found in LHS too. After seniors were given a list of their entire class and told to vote for 16 people they believed positively represented our school, this year’s prom court was determined.
Those selected were Sigrid Brakenhielm, Charlie Coyne, Logan Coyne, Nolan Darcy, Emilie Driscoll, Mallory Ensing, Mira Garcia, Shanko Kornachuk, Chase Merrill, Koyume O’Doherty, Tate O’Hollaren, Charlie Petersen, Bella Rogers, Brett Seely, Abigail Dixon, Natalie Warrens.
As members of the prom court, they will be honored at the prom assembly, receive a catered lunch and gifts during the week of prom and will have the chance to be crowned as prom royalty. But according to ASB Activities Director Mallory Ensing, that’s not all that makes it special.
“Prom court is special because it honors the seniors picked by their own classmates as candidates for royalty,” Ensing said. “It’s really just meant to be fun and lighthearted, which is perfect for the end of senior year.”
Bella Rogers, one of those elected to prom court, also admires the court’s cheerful and somewhat unserious nature.
“I think the idea of a prom court is super silly,” said Rogers. “But it makes me think of every teen movie ever, so that makes it pretty fun.”
Another court member, Natalie Warrens, appreciates how the nomination process is inclusive.
“I think it’s a more accommodating alternative to the conventional prom king and queen choosing,” Warrens said.
The dance is quickly approaching, and Pacers can’t wait to spend time with those who are special to them for one of their last dances and see who is elected as the two prom royalty.
