As the weather gets colder and the days get shorter, LHS students have one reliable comfort: their go-to holiday drink.
Whether it’s a festive drink grabbed on the way to school or hot chocolate mixed at home before school, these seasonal sips are becoming part of our school’s winter identity.
Those special winter drinks have arrived at Starbucks, or at home, as it’s the holiday season. They are starting to show up in the halls and classrooms here at LHS, bringing warmth and coziness among students.
“Hot cocoa with marshmallows and a candy cane swirl, that is peak,” said freshman Emerson Roddon. “It has a warm and cozy feeling, it is very nostalgic and takes me to Christmastime.”
The hot cocoa and marshmallow combo with some peppermint is an essential drink in people’s households, no matter the age.
“It warms me up when I’m cold, tastes good, and gives the festive vibes,” said sophomore Annika Erikson.
Support services coordinator Liz Murphy likes lots of peppermint and coffee for her favorite winter-themed drink. You will most likely see many peppermint sticks around her office and the student store, and maybe even catch her with a peppermint latte.
“I have an unhealthy obsession with peppermint and candy canes,” said Murphy.
When you’re around LHS, though, you will see all sorts of drinks. For senior London Kniss, a gingerbread drink is her preference, including the gingerbread iced chai latte from Starbucks.
“I love it because it’s cold, has really good cold foam, and makes me feel Christmasy,” said Kniss.
The taste of gingerbread spice and the Christmas-themed cups they come in bring her joy when she takes holiday drinks to school. The gingerbread cold foam is delicious this time of year, and you won’t want to miss out.
They can be something warm to hold when it’s cold out, or something tasty and refreshing for a pick-me-up. Winter drinks are an essential part of the day for LHS students, bringing them the holiday spirit to cheer them up.
