The Lake Monsters Robotics Team is the LOHS and LHS shared robotics team. Together, they compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition, a STEM competition that attempts to give skills needed for STEM fields.
“We provide students with valuable real-world engineering and business skills,” said Tara Reddy, a junior and member of the Lake Monsters. The skills aim to help students grow and get ready for life after high school.
Robotics isn’t all robots; the team also has marketing, CAD (Computer-Aided Design), and software jobs that work alongside the engineering and electrical work.
The main robotics competition is held in the spring. During the offseason, the Lake Monsters compete in a competition called BunnyBots.
“Our team allows students to create their own outreach programs and non-profits,” said Reddy. “The team works to stimulate a real job environment with many moving parts, all working towards the goal.”
The robotics team does many community outreach events, like volunteering at Doernbecher’s Children’s Hospital and putting on workshops for kids in the Lake Oswego community.
“I wanted to be an engineer and I’ve always loved STEM,” said Reddy. “I thought joining the team would be a fun way to figure out what I wanted to do in the future.”
