OBOB lists are out, and LHS is looking to form a team for the 2025-2026 Oregon Battle of the Books tournament, a statewide competition that brings students together to participate in trivia-style battles. Led by librarian Sammy Bok, the program is gaining momentum as students start reading to put their book knowledge to the test.
OBOB challenges teams of students across Oregon to read a list of books.
Teams then meet and compete in “battles,” answering very detailed questions to test their comprehension.
“I did OBOB a couple of years ago, and it was so much fun,” said sophomore Henry Thompson. “I was able to meet tons of new people around my school.”
The competition starts with local battles that lead to regionals and eventually the state championships. While competing, students will develop their critical thinking skills, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation of reading.
“It’s definitely difficult for upperclassmen as they have more AP classes and extracurriculars, but the underclassmen love participating, especially since we have so many different genres in high school,” said Bok. “It’s a lot of work, but a real accomplishment when finished.”
Students interested in joining the LHS OBOB team can sign up with Bok in the library. Although there is no required sign-up date, Bok recommends registering by November to stay ahead of the workload.
