After a long and tumultuous regular season, the boys Lakeridge tennis team is ready to dominate, starting with the duo of junior Brayden Lee and sophomore Sean Xiao, who dominated their recent outing at the TRL tournament.
But for Brayden, that is just the beginning of the long road ahead.
“I am aiming to make the quarterfinals for state this year in tennis with Sean, but our biggest goal is actually winning state,” said Lee. “And we think we have a pretty solid chance of doing so.”
Xiao and Lee battled for third place in the TRL against junior Jaeyan Lee and sophomore Tomas Golovnykh and beat them 6-4, 6-2 in their match that sent them to state.
“Being able to move on and not get down on yourself is crucial to staying at 100% effort throughout that match,” said Lee when asked about how he prepares for the outings. “I like to remind myself that the reason I practice is so that I can perform during matches.”
Along with Lee and Xiao dominating, seniors Seokjung Kim and Evan Morris won the doubles consolation bracket for the TRL tournament in dominant fashion.
With the season concluding, Lee has more of an opportunity to reflect on how the overall season went.
“It’s nice to know that your teammates and friends are rooting for you,” said Lee. “Team dinners are also the best.”
Now, with the season about to end, the team asks for LHS to show out at Tualatin Hills Tennis Center for their final state tournament, and to cheer loudly for Sean and Brayden in their final match of the year.
