LHS tennis opened their season strong, beating all of their TRL opponents convincingly. As of April 8, the girls are 5-1, and the boys are 5-0. This year the team is more prepared than ever for districts, as many members have been practicing during the offseason either by doing other sports or simply playing tennis on their own
“Yeah I practiced out of season, about four days a week,” said junior Brayden Lee. “I usually practice singles but I’ve done tournaments with Sean Xiao for doubles in the offseason too.”
On the girls side, the team has not been more excited for a season than this year, and the team has been training harder than ever to see success at districts. Last year the team placed first at districts. This year, with the additions of freshman Drew Fitzgerald, the team seeks to land even higher.
“I’m really confident in the team this year. We’ve been training super well and a lot of us have even done club matches on our own,” said senior Nicole Babitskaya.
The girls’ next match will be on April 13, against LOHS.
On the boys side there is a similar story. Many members are very excited for the season to move into full swing and for more matches to start for them to prove themselves. The team has done both solo and team offseason practices in preparation for the matches this year and to give the team the best possible odds for success at districts.
“I practiced on my own, but also for me, I eat well and train well and for the team, we do the same thing,” said senior Allan Wang.
The boys next match is also on April 13, at LOHS.
However, while the team would love to beat LOHS, to them, all of their matches are merely practice for districts, which takes place on May 14-16.
