With their first games on the horizon, LHS softball got to work building a winning team. The addition of four freshmen to the varsity team and a drive to dominate gave the team a new confidence going into the season.
“Honestly, we have a really strong team,” said senior first baseman Beatrice Madden. “We have six strong and experienced senior athletes, as well as new underclassmen additions to the team, who are ready to hit the ground running. Freshmen pitchers, utility players and catchers are the main new additions.”
This added depth has given the team a lot of room to grow and adapt in tough moments. The team has also built a positive team culture that they hope will show in their performance on the field.
“The culture of the team has been strong and I think we are coming together quickly,” said freshman third baseman and catcher Brooke Condon.
In a sport where the club team is the place to get college offers and recruitments, getting people to come play for their high school team can be hard.
“The seasons feel different though, as it’s super fun to support the future Pacer girls that will come through the program, through events that we host like youth night, summer camps, skills nights and the home run hitting derby,” said Madden.
When the community gets so involved, it’s no wonder that people want to come be a part of the LHS softball team. The team supports each other in everything they do and the encouragement is always there.
For many it seems it’s not about playing in high school so much as it’s about being a teammate.
“The most fun thing so far has been tryouts and just being with the team,” said Condon.
In the moments that the seniors will look back on, it’s not the wins and losses that they will remember, but the memories that they made together, bonding on long bus rides and bonding over posgame dessert trips. The team is excited to make the most of their season.
With a long season ahead, anything can happen, but Pacers should keep an eye out for their softball team to see what they will be able to accomplish.
