LHS cross country put together an impressive season this fall, with both the girls and boys teams placing No. 3 and No. 1 in districts and both teams earning qualifications for state. Personal records and consistent performances helped establish the Pacers as one of the most competitive programs in the region.
On the boys side, sophomore Cole Bruni placed 3rd overall at districts with a 5K time of 15:56, followed closely by teammates Wyeth Heizer and James Frost.
“As a team, we were really powerful, and did what we needed to do.” says junior Ash Carlson.
The girls team also showed strength, led by senior Grace Houlihan with a standout 17:58, placed 2nd overall in the district 5K. With teammates like Ramona Tarlow and Clara Surrat close behind, the girls continued improving as the season progressed.
“I think that the team has done super well, there’s been a lot of team bonding and so many people made it to state,” said sophomore Lokyie Koo.
Both teams emphasized consistency and support as the races grew more competitive. Their performances across the major invitationals and league meets showed strong teamwork and discipline.
“The whole XC community, both athletes and coaches, can find a way to make the lows better.” says junior Dorian Booth.
With developing runners, leadership and a united sense of purpose, LHS cross country closed the season as one of its strongest in recent years. The Pacers proved they had the drive and determination to race with the best.
