With winter thawing away and the spikes clicking out on the ground, the dawn of a new LHS track season approaches.
“I am really excited for what the new season will bring,” said sophomore Owen Prohaska. “The coaches are great and I really feel like I have improved.”
This is the feeling that has embodied most of the track athletes this year, with all of them aiming to shoot high and far with their goals.
“My goal is the school record,” said senior pole vaulter Grace Peng. “It’s 12 feet 3’ inches and I am hoping for 12 feet 6 inches’ this season.”
Peng is committed to the University of Chicago for pole vaulting, and when asked about her key to success this year, she said to “maintain her body” for the season and “not get injured” in order to be able to compete in college and at the Nike outdoor nationals meet. Peng has also started off the season hot, getting second place at the most recent track meet.
The LHS track team is competing at home three times this year, April 7, April 28, and May 5, where athletes like Peng and Prohaska will compete with the goal of dominating the competition.
