LHS cheerleaders bring lots of pep to our sports games, but recently have been looking pretty bummed in the halls. That is because their Texas trip, where they were going to fight for a national title, was canceled due to ice storms.
“I was really looking forward to it — last year the comp was so fun and it was really great team bonding,” said sophomore Nazli Gad.
In place of this trip, cheer coach Christine Langley signed them up for a competition at David Douglass performing the same routine. They placed second. That competition ended their game-day season.
“It’s unfortunate that the game-day season ended like that, but it does not overlook a really great season with lots of wins: We are looking forward to state,” said sophomore Nazli Gad.
They have participated in many game-day competitions this season and have won several of them, including the West Linn, Lake Oswego, Gladstone and Clackamas competitions.
They have been the OSAA Game day champs for the past three years. They placed 2nd this year.
Throughout the gameday season, five pacers have been given awards. Dahlia Caizero and Finley MacLachlan both won “All-State Team” , while Dylan Edward, Macy Walkenhorse and Eve Vanderlip won “All-State Finalist”.
With the state coming up they are still constantly practicing almost everyday for three hours with competitions on the weekends.
“We’ve had a similar practice schedule since mid summer, it’s a long season, but coaches and the team keeps things fun” said freshman Macy Walkenhourse
“I’m feeling confident about our shot at winning. It’s really us versus West Linn and we will come down to how well we perform our routine at the moment.” Said Senior Kylie Holmes.
In 2024 and 2025 they placed 3rd at the state competition and in 2023 they placed 2nd. The last time they placed 1st was 1995.
The state competition is on Feb. 14 at Oregon City High School. They will be performing a routine called “Stay True to the Blue!”
