The Seattle Seahawks and the Patriots just battled out in an all-time classic. Everyone remembers the tragic plot twist at the end of the 2015 Super Bowl. Marshawn “Beastmode” Lynch was expected to get the ball on the one-yard line, where he was practically unstoppable but they decided to throw the ball, and Malcom Butler intercepted the ball and sealed the win for the Patriots.
Students at LHS were not thrilled with the low-action game. Both teams dominated their conference play and steamed through the playoffs. The Seahawks, who won the big game, were led by their unstoppable defense, showing signs of the “Legion of Boom” that was the team’s defense 10 years ago. Their defense held the Patriots to 13 points and gave up the touchdown in the 4th quarter.
The Patriots, led by their young quarterback Drake Maye, who was second in the MVP runnings, showed why he can be the Patriots’ next Dynasty Quarterback.
Drew Weiler, a senior at LHS, shared his thoughts on the game.
“It became a defensive battle very quickly. For the second time in NFL history, there was not a touchdown scored within the first 3 quarters, resulting in a boring few hours,” said Weiler. “It was good to see a PNW team win a professional championship.”
Jackson Hoevet, a senior, followed the common opinion.
“It was a pretty underwhelming game the first three quarters, with no explosive plays. Took until the fourth quarter to get interesting, but overall was kinda boring,” said Hoevet.
The Super Bowl has been a shared holiday for many years, with awesome food, memories, and people. This year, it seemed not be as entertaining and not have as much hype as it had previously.
Easton Lawson, a junior, is also missing the old enthusiasm that usually comes with the big game.
“There needs to be better lead-up and more exciting things when counting down the days for the Super Bowl, ” said Lawson. “There wasn’t as much hype this year, and that bummed me out.”
The Super Bowl showed how differently people at LHS see the same event. Some students were celebrating, others were disappointed, and some didn’t care at all. No matter the opinion, it definitely got everyone talking the next day.
