With two second place certificates and both teams in finals games, LHS water polo ended their season. Both teams had tremendous growth throughout the season. Training from the beginning of August to mid November. 13 athletes across both teams received all league recognition, and the girls team went undefeated in league.
Going from the new player that needed help with everything to an experienced player that was giving instructions, fixing form and explaining drills was a full circle moment for me. It made me realize how much I have grown not only as a water polo player but also as a person throughout my high school water polo career.
I went from being the kid who would hide behind others so she wouldn’t get subbed in, to the kid bouncing on the bench ready to get back into the water, going from dreading to get in, to dreading to get out.
This change was due to my coaches. They always pushed me to work harder and step up as a player. I’m grateful that they were present in my water polo journey to teach me good work ethics, grit and perseverance.
While I won’t remember the specifics of my senior season 10 years from now, I will definitely hold the lessons I learned close for years to come.
