The team members’ excitement took over the field as the players walked onto the field, accompanied by the crowd’s roaring cheers. The celebration of a goal ripped the sky as they scored a goal.
The LHS boys and girls varsity teams wrapped up their season strong this month, ending a competitive run with hard-fought matches, with the boys going into the semi-finals and the girls into the quarter-finals. Both varsity teams showed an ongoing enhancement in the game; however, outsiders might only care about the scores, but team members enjoyed more of the experience of the game.
“I think we performed really well. I know that [we] didn’t make it as far last year,” said freshman Gabby Bachman. “And I think we really got the solid feeling that we’re doing well. We got really high in the playoffs.”
Although both teams faced tough opponents, the players showed steady improvement and a level of resilience.
“I feel like we definitely tried our best, and like we definitely made an impression on the program as well as strengthened the culture this year,” said senior Margot Armerding.
As the girls soccer team crushed their playoffs and progressed the team to a new position, the boys soccer team crushed their playoffs as well as the girls as they made it to the semi-final. The boys’ soccer team faced a lot of tough opponents throughout the season, and many of the members expressed a sense of a high level of accomplishment.
“I think that winning against Jesuit this year was probably my favorite memory, because it was just such a hard-fought game,” said Dominic Lemuz, one of the captains of the boys soccer team.
Other members of the varsity team expressed similar feelings towards the game between LHS and Jesuit High School. The game was memorable to team members as they finished off their season.
“[I love the win] over Jesuit. We beat them in extra time,” said Collin Cernitz, another captain of the boys soccer team. “It was really exciting because we’re kind of rivals, and so it was really good to beat [them].”
Team members enjoyed the moment on the field to celebrate, even when the result wasn’t always a win; many of the members expressed a sense of pride in their team as they finished off this season and headed to the next.
