The Pacers have begun this season on even footing with a winning record of (4-3), losing against the No. 2, No.3, and No. 6 ranked teams in Ore. The Pacers are currently ranked 6th in the 6A rankings, captained by seniors Marcus Post, Ansu Sanoe, Turner Tropio, Drew Weiler and Joe Weiler.
Going into league play, the Pacers will face a competitive Three Rivers League, featuring powerhouse schools such as No. 1 Lake Oswego and No. 5 Tualatin. “Some games we have highlighted are definitely West Linn and LO,” said senior linebacker Cooper Swygard. “Both are very good teams that played each other in the championship last year.”
Senior wide receiver and defensive back Marcus Post has enjoyed a particularly successful start to the season, leading the team in touchdowns, while also excelling on the defensive side of the ball.
“Our run game has been phenomenal,” said junior running back Colby Owen. Varsity football head coach Spencer Phillips, in his sixth season in charge of the Pacers, aims to lead this experienced group of boys to a potential deep playoff run.
“Being considered one of the best teams in the state comes with a lot of sacrifice and hard work that
these kids have put in,” said Phillips. “The training in the off-season, the independent work and study – being ‘successful’ comes at a price.”
The Pacers will look to continue improving as the season progresses into the first round of playoffs on Nov. 7.
