Are Labubus really worth the hype?

Labubu or Lafufu? These fluffy dolls have taken over the internet for good reason. No matter your age, Labubus will be all over your FYP, proving just how universally loved they are.

Since 2019, Pop Mart has been producing Labubus as plush doll collectibles. Labubus have now become conversation starters, creative accessories and companions kids love because of their popularity on social media.

“They’re so cute,” said sophomore Annika Ericksson. “I love them and I treasure them forever.”

Labubus have now become a fashion-forward purse charm as well as a social media trend everyone knows about. If you want to be trending, you can find this unique and adorable doll on the Pop Mart app for about $50.

A child’s stuffed animals are major parts of any kid’s early years, shaping kids as they hold and cuddle them for dear life. Stuffies are cute, cuddly and fun, none of which include the demonic traits Labubus possess. Labubus have recently been terrifying the world and the people who buy them. Have you ever taken a look at one? Just looking into their eyes, they look like dolls who will haunt you in your dreams.

Even the opposition, junior Peyton Allen agrees.

“[Labubus] have taken over,” said Allen.

When asked if Labubus are demonic, junior Cash Sattelberger agreed.

“100%, I think they lean more towards demonic rather than government drones,” said Sattelberger.

I love stuffed animals, but I don’t get how Labubus has become so popular. Being so expensive and ugly compared to other stuffed animals I had as a kid doesn’t add up.

All in all, if you see a Labubu, run for your life…

Peyton Allen is a new sophomore at Lakeridge High School who loves meeting new people. She is kind, outgoing, and hard working. Peyton spends most of her time playing softball, photographing or broadcasting sports, at Young Life, and picking out the perfect outfit. Her parents say she has “always been independent” so she also finds herself doing her own nails and upcycling some of her clothes. Peyton pushes herself to be the best she can be in academics, athletics, social, and extracurriculars. She one day hopes to attend a journalism school with and emphasis on sports media somewhere less cold.

Joshua Miller is a sophomore staff reporter for the Newspacer. Josh is passionate about solving problems, hence why he enjoys math and the sciences. In his free time you can find him playing soccer, running track, playing video games, or hanging out with his friends. Josh is like a hatching bird, he’s shy when you meet him, but as you develop connection you uncover a whole new world of adventure. Spreading his wings is one of the many attributes Josh has acquired throughout his heroic challenges and triumphs. As Joe Schloetter, sophomore honors English teacher, would say, “high school is just his threshold guardian, and nothing is gonna stop him now!”
