LHS’s boys and girls soccer wrapped up their seasons in the playoffs this year. Boys soccer beat West Salem 8-0 in round one of playoffs and beat Ida B. Wells 4-2 in round two.
“I like playing a longer season,” Xavi Sandino-Taylor said. “I think we’re ready.” The LHS boys soccer team was ranked no. 1 in Oregon with a record of 16-1, but after a 3-1 loss to Grant, they were knocked out in the third round of playoffs
Some key players were defender Lucas Waarvick; midfielder Max Harris-Inman and goalkeeper Olander Tangkjaer.
Big wins for the boys were against Jesuit 3-0 on Sept. 23, 5-0 to Tigard on Oct. 9, and especially the 8-0 West Salem playoff match on Nov. 2. Their only regular season loss was to La Salle Prep 3-0 on Sept. 5.
Girls soccer lost to Sheldon 2-0 in round one of playoffs. The girls soccer team was ranked No. 27 in Oregon with a record of 5-8-2. The girls team started off strong by winning four out of their first six games, however, they had a challenging end to the season with five losses.
Some of their key players were senior captain and defender Mallory Ensing, co-captain, senior and defender Sydney Chaver; and goalkeepers senior Emilie Driscoll and sophomore Meredith Razey.
Big wins for the girls were against Roosevelt 6-1, showing the team’s offensive skill, and against Sherwood 5-4.
