The Portland food scene needs no introduction as there is such a wide and diverse variety of cuisines, dishes, restaurants and it has nothing short of great places to feed your soul during the bleak winter months.
First, Lauretta Jean’s, a cozy pie bakery located on Division street. Lauretta Jean’s has a comforting and lively atmosphere filled with the scent of sweet flaky pastries. Their specialties include the salted honey and chocolate chess pies, but they have an extensive list with 19 pies and many other desserts. Their slices are $7 and full ones are $47.
Next is Kachka, an Eastern European restaurant that makes its home on the Eastside. Kachka has many options for dining as they have their Lavka, which has a counter style type lunch and is fully equipped with a deli to purchase varying provisions. Their dinner is great for large parties as they serve their dishes family style, they are also most known for their Pelmeni (dumplings) which are served hot and soothing when in cold weather. Their prices are on the higher end of things, with $50 a person.
Last off, a lesser known spot, the Behind the Museum Cafe, in Downtown is a quaint cafe which specializes in Japanese teas, dishes and pastries. They also have a small store within that has antiques that make perfect gifts. Their main focus in drinks are green teas and matcha, but they also have coffee. This place is perfect to chat with friends or read a book while it’s cold and dreary. The price range for this cafe is reasonable, at $10 for a drink and a snack.
