The wellness room has been moved next to the library on the second floor of LHS.
Due to the limited space of the new wellness room, the flow of students has been adjusted to a more structured procedure instead of the previous drop-in format.
“Students that need that level of support are assigned to that class now,” said LHS principal Desiree Fisher. “So it’s a little bit more intentional.”
Fisher recommends students to start by meeting with their counselor if they need the extra support from the wellness room. From there, their counselors will help coordinate a schedule including visits to the wellness room.
One of the goals of this method is to strengthen the solutions that the wellness room offers.
“In the long run, how can we not just avoid them and de-escalate in the moment, but how can we start to develop the skills around meeting those challenges and not feeling overcome by them?” said Fisher.
This new approach aims to create more stable, long term solutions for students through the increased support provided by teachers in the wellness room.
