Updates to the B-wing and the addition of the Pathways Program are new changes to LHS this fall.
One of the most impactful changes for students is the lower B-wing renovations. There are updated gender-neutral bathrooms, staircase paneling and changes to some of the classrooms.
While these changes are impactful to the school, they weren’t easy to transition to.
“The renovation has made it more challenging for some of the day-to-day activities,” said Biology teacher Matt Briggs. “So setting up the classroom, and doing the labs while also unpacking has been a bit of a challenge.”
Some of the science classrooms have new cabinets, storage facilities, desks, chairs and updated rubber flooring. New custom-made lab tables are expected to come in by the end of first quarter. Phase two of the renovation will be happening next summer and will involve the same additions to the rest of the science classrooms.
LHS has also welcomed the Pathways Program this year. What was previously known as the Wellness Room has now been remodeled as a classroom for students in the program.
“Recent construction includes a [new] room for life skills training, such as cooking and independent living, and upgraded science department facilities with new lab stations and furniture,” said Principal Desiree Fisher. “The Pathways program offers occupational therapy and academic assistance, including mobility needs.”
