The Lake Oswego Fire Department will be hosting its second annual Fire Camp for Teens this summer, with eight spots available for four girls and four boys. The camp will happen from July 25 – 27, teaching participants general fireground processes with the help of experienced local firefighters.
“The goals of our camp are in our motto: Spark Curiosity, Fuel Empowerment, and Grow Confidence,” said Fire Department Office Manager Amanda Creek. “We want to give teens the opportunity to not only see what a firefighting career looks like, but also to get experience working with a team and learning leadership skills.”
To apply for the camp, interested teens must be from 15 to 18 years old and submit a form which includes general participant information as well as three questions requiring short written responses. The form is available on the City of Lake Oswego website, and all submissions were submitted by May 11th to be considered for participation. Once all forms have been received, the chosen teens were notified by May 30th.
“The firefighters who did [the camp] thought it was a great experience and they’re excited to do it again,” said Creek. If this opportunity sounds exciting to you, be sure to check out the application form and apply for a week of team-based firefighter experience.
