The boys had their first tournament Monday March 17 where they placed 4th in the Tigard-Tualatin Preseason Showcase. They were up against Tigard, Lake Oswego, Mountainside, and Central Catholic. Moses Hadad, freshman, and Rylan Smalley, seniors were LHS’s top scorers in the tournament.
Recently they had another match on Monday, March 31. Lakeridge placed 3rd, West Linn placed 2nd, and Lake Oswego placed 1st. The other teams that played were Oregon City, Tualatin, and Tigard.
The team has 19 athletes between JV and varsity. They are able to practice in various places, like Lake Oswego Country Club, Stone Golf Course, and Trails End Range. They had to find different courses to practice on since the closing of MUNI (Lake Oswego Municipal Golf).
“The team is pretty good this year,” said Boys varsity Golf Coach Art. “The league is also good. Our team is hoping to make it to the state tournament.”
The girl’s first match started the Monday after Spring break, where they placed fourth out of 6 teams at Stone Creek golf course. This year they have 12 girls on the team, and they practice 4 times a week at many golf courses, similar to the boys.
“We want to make it as a team–work hard together, score together.” said girls varsity coach Rory. “[Hopefully] make it to state. We have a couple new girls on varsity this year.”
“We have a couple seniors who have been on the team all four years,” said JV girl’s Coach Gregg. “So we’re thinking they can show some good leadership. We have a full JV team this year, which is more than last year.”
Next match for the girls is April 7 at Lake Oswego Country Club.
