Lacrosse is scooping the ball towards state and facing-off multiple league and non-league teams. So far, the boys and girls varsity lacrosse teams are staying undefeated, winning almost all of their games.
The lacrosse team tryouts happened in the first week of March, where the coaches selected 28 guys with two extra swingers, and 22 girls for varsity teams.
The 30 varsity boys spend most of their spring together, training almost everyday, including the weekends.
“We have practice usually five days a week, unless we have games and then we’ll have our chalkboard and film sessions,” said assistant coach Frank Obiesie. “We’ll have those on the weekends, probably Saturday or Sunday morning, and so for the most part, we’re doing something seven days a week.”
Just like the boys team, the girls lacrosse team is bonding and working towards state.
“Our goals are to make it to state championships and just be supportive of each other,” said senior Valerie Stephan.
With over 10 games this season for both teams, the boys team’s first game was on March 17 at LHS against Sunset High School for the boys, where they won 15-5. The girls varsity team was against Sherwood High School on March 18, where they won 15-0.
“My favorite part about lacrosse is the team itself,” said senior Tristan Martin. “We are a family and each and every one of us has each other’s backs.”
“For us, we focus on one game at a time, one practice at a time, one play at a time, one rep at a time, so that way you’re fully focused on everything in front of you,” said Obiesie.
Catch lacrosse at their next game on April 9 at LHS against Oregon Episcopal School.
