Aisles filled with them. Whole stores dedicated to them. Birthday wish lists devoted to them. “Them” as in the globally loved toys called “Jellycats.”
Before the toys’ rise in popularity, stuffies were primarily seen as merely children’s belongings. But due to their spread through mainstream media, the soft toy company originating in London is making its way into the hearts of many older consumers.
“I really like how soft and cute they are,” junior Grace Kriwanek said. “Their faces are adorable.”
While many people adore the plush toys, their prices can be controversial. Most Jellycats range from $20-50, but depending on the size or edition of them, they can reach upwards of $600.
“I would say they are kind of reasonable because they are good quality and stay soft after being washed multiple times,” senior Emma Doyle said.
Others like senior Chloe Lin believe they’re desired due to their popularity on social media.
“I think people are willing to pay such high prices because Jellycats are trending and some designs are more unique,” said Lin.
Lin has two. Kriwanek has three. Doyle has five. Sophomore Helena Bonello has 14. One by one, Jellycats are taking over and providing the ability for all consumers to embrace their inner child.
