After their third consecutive win at the GameDay State Championships, it is clear that the LHS cheer team’s hard work has been paying off.
The team’s victory took place on Nov. 9, and was an inspiring win to close out their Game Day season.
They started off the season strong with their first competition at Clackamas High School, where they secured a first place victory for the team. Their first win was good for building morale, but also helped everyone get into the competition spirit.
“I think that it was just good to put our routine out there on the mat and get feedback from the judges,” said junior Lindsey Lyons. “It’s always nice to hear what other teams have to say and how other teams are doing this year compared to last year.”
The excitement for cheer has been more notable this year due to the growth of the team, which features 12 new members, and that energy is infectious for the rest of the members.
“We’ve definitely gotten larger,” said junior Alexandra Grigore. “More people have shown interest towards cheer.”
During competition season, the team has to keep up a rigorous schedule in order to be successful.
“We practice about three hours after school, three times a week, and we are really drilling into little details,” said Lyons.
The cheer team will now begin their regular season which is full of many more competitions. Their next competition will be on Dec. 7 at McMinnville High School. They will compete in the 6A Traditional and 6A Game Day leagues.
