The Lake Oswego Schools Foundation (LOSF) raised $380,000 worth of “pledges” as part of their annual Phone-a-Thon in October. This contributes to the total fundraising goal of $1.5 million.
Every year, for three days, volunteers from around the district come together to phone all families in the district to pledge their support to the LOSF. These pledges are promises that the family will donate a specific amount to the cause.
LHS gets a share of the funds.
“The Lake Oswego School Foundation helps decrease class size by increasing the number of teachers…for a bunch of different courses,” said vice principal Brian Crawford. “If we just went off of the state funding, we would have class sizes that are the same as a lot of other schools, where you might have 35 or 36 kids in your English class, and you have 28 here.”
The money raised is earmarked to support teachers, as well as helping the LOSD to continue to provide many unique and enriching classes and extracurricular activities.
Some classes supported by these donations are science, technology and arts electives.
