With one of its largest rosters yet, the 38 members of the LHS Cheer team are preparing for another season. The team has been working on creating high energy performances to showcase at sports games and competitions.
“There’s a steady culture of teamwork and collaboration that I think has really helped us progress to our goals, especially as such a large team,” said senior Sammy Melton. “I think that has a lot to do with the general culture of working hard and helping other members of the team to learn material and get where they need to be skills and choreography wise.”
The team attended another summer NCA cheer camp, where they won an impressive 17 All-American nominations, six more than last year. Junior Dahlia Caizero won the Top All American award.
With competitions around the corner this fall and winter, the team continues to diligently train, ensuring they’re well prepared to compete and succeed. Their first competition the Pacer Invitational will be on February 1 and their State competition in late February.
With the steady progress in learning new skills and routines, they are excited and believe their goal of placing in the top 50% in all of their competitions is easily within reach.
As the season continues to unfold, the LHS cheer team continues to create an environment of support and perseverance in their practices. With a clear focus on teamwork, they are not only preparing for competitions but also creating lasting memories and friendships.
“My favorite part of being on the cheer team is the feeling of celebrating a win together after we’ve been training for a competition for months,” said Melton.
