On the heels of a close 5-4 victory against Jesuit in overtime, the LHS boys lacrosse team is looking to continue their winning streak and go all the way this year. With an undefeated record in Oregon and an overall record of 16-1, the Pacer boys clinched the number one ranked seed.
Last year the lacrosse team placed second at the state championship in a close 12-7 loss against Jesuit. This year the team got revenge, handing Jesuit their first in-state loss in over three years.
“My favorite moment definitely has to be beating Jesuit,” said assistant coach Obiesie. “It’s been a long time, and they’ve had our number for the past few years.”
Along with the dogpile occurrence right after their win, the boys also saw success securing the Three Rivers League. Most notably they beat LOHS twice without conceding a single goal and scoring a total of 36 across both games.
All of this winning hasn’t come easily though. The team has been dedicated, with a touch of revenge.
“These guys worked hard over the summer, and really worked hard in the fall and winter, right after that loss in that championship game,” said Obiesie.
The importance of offseason training in any sport cannot be understated. It’s crucial for players to maintain their practice routine and over the past couple of years the lacrosse program at LHS has been a perfect example of that commitment level.
With a great season behind them this year’s state competition looks bright.
