Home run, touching the base, grand slam — this is what makes the Pacer boys baseball team strong and ready to take on the season. The varsity team consists of 17 boys, who are all friends and excited to play together this spring season.
“My favorite part about the season are the home games,” said senior Tyler Truong.
The athletes had practice everyday before and after school pre-season, which started in September and continue having after school practices throughout the season, where they work on a variety of different skills that will be essential on the field.
“They usually do drills for their specific position and weight train,” said assistant coach Nathan Smyly. “The focus is on ensuring the hard work translates into success on the field.”
The team’s first game was on March 18 against Nelson high school, where they won 5-1.
“Our pitchers stayed in the zone and kept the opponents from scoring with good hits,” said Truong.
“It felt good to be back with the team and play again,” said junior Ben Zahn.
Like every other LHS sports team, baseball has many goals that keep them motivated.
“Our first goal is always to win the TRL league,” said Smyly. “I think we have the talent, and the boys put in a lot of hard work, so I think the hard work is going to pay off this year,” he said.
The boys baseball team plays against South Salem on April 9 at LHS.
